When can I cancel my mortgage payments?

You must pay your mortgage with your existing lender right up to the agreed completion date. Your lender will provide your solicitor with the figure required to redeem your mortgage up to the time of completion.

You should not cancel your mortgage repayments until you have confirmed this with your solicitor.

What will happen to any overpayments I have made to my existing lender?

If you have made any overpayments to your existing lender these will be refunded from your lender either directly into your account or via your solicitor.

Will I need to pay stamp duty when I remortgage?

Occasionally, stamp duty will be payable on a remortgage. This is normally when a transfer of property title is taking place at the same time as the remortgage.

What will happen if I have a second mortgage on the property?

You will have the option of repaying the second charge as part of the remortgage process.

However you can postpone the second charge so the new lender will have the first charge on the property and second charge will remain as a second charge sitting after the new loan.
